What We Handle Under Residential Electrician

Anything electrical inside a house belongs on this page. In practice these arrive in clusters rather than one at a time.

Faults and Repairs

Tripping circuits, dead points, flickering lights. We test to find the cause rather than replace parts until the symptom stops.

Power Points and Switches

Extra outlets where you keep running out, USB and weatherproof versions, plus swapping anything cracked, loose or scorched.

Lighting and Fans

Downlights, LED changeovers, outdoor lighting and ceiling fans, mounted properly and switched where you actually want the switch.

Safety Switches and Board Work

Fitting safety switches (RCDs), adding circuits, and replacing boards that have run out of room or run out of years.

Rewiring, Full or Partial

Whole houses, single circuits, or the one room that has been quietly worrying you since you moved in.

Appliance and Oven Circuits

The dedicated circuits and isolation switches that ovens, cooktops and hot water units need. The electrical side of those jobs is ours.

Signs You Need Residential Electrician Work

Most homes give you a while to notice. These are the ones not to sit on.

  • A breaker tripping so predictably you have started scheduling around it
  • Outlets sitting warm to the touch, wobbling, or browning around the pins
  • Lights that dip every time the kettle goes on
  • Adaptors stacked into adaptors because the room came up short
  • Half a room's outlets dead since you moved in, cause unknown
  • Fabric-covered or cloth cable showing itself in the roof space or subfloor

The Matraville Angle on Residential Electrician Work

Matraville is renovating, and renovation here has a habit of turning into electrical work nobody quoted for.

The pattern is consistent. Someone opens up a wall for a new kitchen, and behind it is wiring that has been quietly ageing since the house went up.

Which house you are in decides the job. A soldiers' settlement home off Somme Way, a mid-century public housing cottage and an 1980s infill place are three different vintages of wiring, and the same kitchen brief lands differently in each.

That is why we scope a job from what is actually in the walls, not from your wish list. A new kitchen circuit is simple. A new kitchen circuit joined onto perished wiring is not, and only one of those is safe to leave.

We would rather find it at quoting stage and tell you, even when that is not the news anyone wants on a renovation budget.

What Affects the Cost of Residential Electrician Work

Home electrical work is priced per job, never per hour. What moves the price is this.

  • What is behind the wall. Older cable found mid-job changes the scope, and we stop and re-quote rather than press on quietly.
  • Access. A roof space you can stand up in and a roof space you cannot are different money for identical work.
  • How many circuits are involved. One new point on an existing circuit is quick. Points needing a new circuit means a trip to the board.
  • Whether the board has room. No spare capacity turns an add-on into a board conversation first.
  • Making good afterwards. Chased walls and lifted floors have to go back properly, and that time is in the quote.

We don't charge by the hour, so a slow ceiling is our problem. The price is agreed before any work starts, with $50 off your first service.

Standards and Paperwork, Explained Simply

Everything we do in your house is built to the AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules. That is the standard behind the questions people actually ask us, like why a bathroom point has to sit a certain distance from the basin.

Put in a circuit or change one and it becomes notifiable electrical work. The job gets lodged, and a Certificate of Compliance is issued in your name, which is the document that matters when you sell or claim.

DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW, including the jobs that feel harmless. Changing your own light fitting is in that category, however many videos suggest otherwise.

If we find something non-compliant that we did not create, we will tell you, price it separately, and let you decide. What we will not do is connect new work onto it and sign off.

The Process, and What It Typically Takes

Little jobs take an hour, maybe two. Give us a whole room and it fills a day; a rewire of the entire house is a week at minimum, and the house itself decides how much more.

  1. We look and we listen. What is wrong, what you want, and what the house will allow. The on-site quote is free and comes in writing.
  2. You get the price first. It arrives in writing and it is settled before anything starts, so nothing about the invoice is a discovery.
  3. We do the work. Drop sheets down and the place left tidy, circuits isolated one at a time so you keep living in the house.
  4. We test and certify. Everything tested before we sign off, with your certificate to follow where the work is notifiable.

The Difference on a Residential Electrician Job

Most electrical work in a home is judged on what happens afterwards, not on the day. Anyone can make a light come on.

The price we quote is the price you pay, which on domestic work matters more than it sounds. Home jobs are exactly where surprises get discovered mid-way and passed on to the customer, and we do not work that way.

One homeowner told us the best thing about the job was being kept in the loop and squeezed in at short notice. That is a fair description of what we aim for. Diane, via Google.

Common questions

Common Residential Electrician FAQs

What comes up on nearly every domestic quote, answered without the runaround.

What guarantee do you give on residential electrical work?

A lifetime workmanship guarantee on the labour, plus a 12-month product warranty over the manufacturer's cover. The certificate arrives by email once we have finished.

Can I choose the brand of gear for residential electrical work?

Of course. We default to name brands because they last and stay available, but if you have a preference or a fitting already sitting in the hallway, we will work with it.

Do NSW rules require anything to be lodged for residential electrical work?

It depends what we touch. New or altered circuits are notifiable and get lodged. Swapping a like-for-like fitting is not, though we still test it before leaving.

Will the power be off the whole time during residential electrical work?

Rarely. We isolate the circuit we are on and leave the rest of the house running. A whole-house outage is normally only for board work, and you get warned in advance.

Are weekend times available for residential electrician work around Matraville?

Our booked work runs Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm. We hold 24/7 availability for genuine emergencies, but ordinary jobs are weekday bookings.

Can you do residential electrical work in a Matraville unit or strata building?

Yes. Anything inside your own lot we can book with you directly. Once the work reaches common property, the owners corporation has to authorise it first.
